Tiffany Garcia has tattooed thousands of people over her two-decade career, but she remains intrigued by the first-timers. Since the spring, more clients without any history of tattoos have arrived at Garcia’s studio in Torrance, California.

It isn’t just young people. Some are middle-aged or divorced, or recently lost someone dear to them. “It felt like people were trying to find themselves or fulfill a purpose with tattoos,” Garcia told me. “I’ve had clients say they never thought to get one in their life.”

Walk-in tattoo event gives local community a way to support victims of sexual assault

In an effort to raise money for victims of sexual assault, community members had their bodies marked with ink at the Still Not Asking For It tattoo flash event on Sunday.

Sexual assault victims and their allies gathered from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at La Grande Tattoo located at 1820 NE 2nd St., to choose one of 23 tattoo designs. 

Kristyn Lopez, a UF art education graduate student and tattoo artist, co-owns the shop with her husband Jesus Lopez. The shop opened in March, making the Still Not Asking For It event its first formal appearance to the community.

Sun’s out, tats out.

On Saturday, Britney Spears gave followers a rare glimpse at her “favorite tattoo” while posing in a backless hot pink swimsuit and white knee-high boots.

The pop star, 39, held up her hair to show off the typically hidden ink, writing on Instagram, “Have you seen the tattoo on the back of my neck before ????”

“It’s Hebrew, it’s a language written backwards !!!! It says Mem Hey Shin and means healing !!!!” she continued, adding with a series of winking emojis, “It’s my favorite tattoo but ironically you never see it.”
