Following a six-year, $50 million renovation, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) on Aug. 15 will host the grand re-opening of its renewed and expanded galleries.

Marking the museum’s 80th anniversary this year, the renovation of SBMA’s original 1912 building improves the gallery’s exhibition space, making it possible to show more of the 27,000-object permanent collection.

Newark Museum of Art debuts summer music series

NEWARK, N.J. — Music and art will come together this summer for a new series by the Newark Museum of Art and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.

Following a 15-month closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum will finally reopen to the public on Thursday.

The special outdoor summer series, Arts in the Garden, will feature 18 different programs, including nine live chamber concerts in partnership with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.

DUBOIS, Wyoming — In 2010, Dan Starks got a patriotic idea. He wanted to participate in the Fourth of July parade in Dubois, the small northwest Wyoming town he retired to after a successful career in the medical device industry.

So Starks purchased a worn-down M4 Sherman Tank for $50,000. The restoration process was slow, and after four years, he grew impatient. He spent half a million dollars on a second, fully restored Sherman tank. Finally, he would be able to pay homage to veterans.

But he didn’t stop amassing military vehicles. He bought more tanks, jeeps, trucks and motorcycles.
